Rio de Janeiro's lodging scene is very diversified, offering options in all price ranges. The first thing to do is find the area or neighborhood that attracts you the most.

Choose your hotel by area or by price range. Even economy hotels offer ensuite rooms (i.e. private bathroom), with air conditioning, color TV, phone and a small refrigerator. We have also included a number of all-suite hotels, where units come with a kitchenette, living room, and one or two bedrooms. Most hotels offer a complimentary Brazilian breakfast including fresh-squeezed juices, tropical fruit, plus the usual treats.

Booking in advance is the best way to avoid the higher counter rates. 

Carnival and New Year's Eve are Rio's main events. During these periods hotels mark up their rates, and offer their rooms in prepayable packages with a predetermined number of mandatory nights. We suggest booking as early as possible, as the best values go very fast.
